On the afternoon of June 29, Chuangming organized a birthday-themed DIY mosaic art coaster workshop titled “Exploring Classical Art: Craftsmanship in Handmade Art” for colleagues celebrating their birthdays in the second quarter.
The historical origins of mosaic art, its presence in different countries and regions, and its applications in modern life. Mosaics originated in ancient Greece as a technique for creating inlaid patterns using small pieces of colored stone, glass, and ceramics. Primarily used to adorn public buildings, they were popular throughout the Classical period. These vibrant art forms document the development of Classical art and have become a valuable legacy of Classical civilization.
The Chuangming participants, looking at the colorful mosaic tiles in their hands, were eager to get started. Following their own ideas, they tried arranging various patterns, freely combining their favorite colors, and coming up with one unique design after another. Next, they applied a base coat of white glue, arranged the mosaic tiles, and once the glue was dry, filled the gaps with grout. Although the steps were simple, the activity tested each participant’s patience, attention to detail, and creativity. Within the small coaster molds, participants were free to mix and match their designs. Using mosaic tiles, they sketched out endless possibilities, showcasing their unique artistic perspectives and personal charm—a fresh and fun experience.
During this “journey at our fingertips,” everyone not only experienced the charm of art but also enjoyed the delight of creating their own DIY projects. Amid laughter and cheerful chatter, it was time for the birthday celebrants to make their wishes, and one by one, they made their wishes while everyone sang a joyful birthday song.
